According to the Pros 10 Things to Know Before Starting our Special Offer for Martial Arts Class

There’s more to it than just punching and kicking.
The typical gym routine — running on a treadmill followed by lifting heavy objects — can get pretty monotonous. If you’re looking for a new way to spice up your workouts, why not try Martial arts classes as a great way to not only get in shape but also learn self-defence, you will be able to whoop a butt or two in the process or being physical and mental healthier 😉

1. We will build you up inch by inch and treat you as a unique individual.

Developing your fitness, mental focus and Martial Arts skills progressively. Your current ability no matter how low will not be a barrier to your development. If you are 8 stone and want to build yourself up or you are 18 stone and looking to shed a few pounds we can get you there one step at a time.

2. Fantasy of martial arts clubs vs reality.

In the movies and on TV the martial arts dojo (club) is a very negative and intimidating place. But that is a fantasy that brings the lead character on the show into a fight with the bad dudes in the club (que choreographed fight scene). In reality, the dojo is the most positive place to be. It’s one of the few places where everyone in the room is on your side and wants to help you to move forward. In my opinion, it is worth training with us for that reason alone.

3. You will work really hard — which means lots of calories burned.

When you first start with martial arts, the body is working in ways it hasn’t had to in the past, providing an overall boost to your strength, cardio, dexterity and mental focus. Taking in all the details of the techniques you’re learning can distract your mind from how hard you’re actually pushing your body. Resulting in a high-calorie burn in an enjoyable, educational and fun way.

4. Martial arts is for everyone, big or small.

Despite what you may think, not everyone who takes martial arts is a blood-thirsty behemoth. In fact, there is typically a huge diversity of students. Whether you’re six feet tall or you’re shorter than the average fifth grader, self-defence is accessible to anyone.

5. It’s important to go in with an open mind.

In order to gain the full experience of a class, you should leave all of your preconceptions behind. This includes but is not limited to thinking martial arts is “just a bunch of rolling around with sweaty dudes!” or “its just guys in pyjamas punching thin air”. Open up, take the blinders off, relax and enjoy the class. Learn what that instructor has to teach you. That one technique you learn that day may help you in the time you actually need it.

6. You will get a kick-ass workout while learning how to kick ass.

I think it goes without saying, but martial arts classes will give you a serious advantage come a street brawl. It’s only smart you know how to defend yourself in case someone breaks out the fisticuffs. “Martial arts is a self-defence sport first and foremost,”

7. You will get a bump or a bruise every now and then.

While the classes are very safe, accidents do happen. I’m not saying you’ll leave the studio looking like a month-old banana, but this is a contact sport, so don’t be surprised if you hit your funny bone once or twice.

8. You’ll get more out of it than just sore shoulders.

Having a tough time handling stress at work or home? Do you have a hard time controlling your breath during a tough workout? These are just a few of the issues you can expect to tackle in a martial arts class. Your ability to handle stress and pressure to make a clear, conscious and positive decision will be light years ahead after learning martial arts. In other words, you can expect to learn some strategy’s in the class that will benefit every area of your life.
More than anything, going to martial arts class will help you leave with an increased mental focus and a greater appreciation for the world around you through a fun, safe, and challenging workout in an encouraging environment with like-minded people.

9. Expect to become a part of a community, not just a gym.

Without a doubt, one of the most important aspects of martial arts is the sense of community that develops within the dojo (club). The comradery between students and instructors is key. It’s more like a clan/team and as you challenge yourself and your training partners to improve you will build friendships that will last a lifetime.
